OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

What is Occupational Therapy (OT)?
Every person has many ‘occupations’ or meaningful activities that they participate in throughout their daily life. For children, these occupations include school/learning, playing, socializing, sports, completing self-care tasks or any other tasks/activities in which a child participates. An OT’s goal is to help each individual develop the underlying motor and social skills needed to become as independent as possible in each of these areas. We strive to make sure a child is able to functionally and successfully participate in meaningful activities in order to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

CONSULT

Initial consults are FREE - Call or email info@happyhandsot.com to schedule your free 15 minute consult. The purpose of a consult is to help us understand your specific concerns and goals for your child. Consults are an important step in determining how your child may benefit from occupational therapy services. If there is a concern that is outside our area of expertise, we have the referrals and resources to provide you with answers. Following a consult, a more formal evaluation may or may not be recommended based on the information you provide.
EVALUATIONS
Occupational Therapy Evaluations will take place in your home or daycare and consist of standardized testing, parent interview, informal observations, and questionnaires. Depending on your concerns for your child, a variety of tests may be completed to look at any or all of the following: fine motor development, visual motor development, sensory processing skills, visual perceptual skills, handwriting skills, gross motor development, daily living skills. A comprehensive report will be provided with results and recommendations provided.
TREATMENT
Occupational therapy consists of skilled interventions to improve self-care, sensory deficits, fine motor, visual motor, and overall coordination difficulties by helping clients develop and strengthen their independence during daily “occupations.” Based on the results of your child’s occupational therapy evaluation and testing, individual treatment may or may not be recommended. If ongoing treatment is recommended, goals will be established and a frequency of treatment for one-on-one sessions will be suggested based on the needs of your child, their motivation level and your schedule. We can decide together, what works best for your child and your family.
PAYMENTS
Happy Hands OT accepts all major credit cards, Health Savings Account/Flexible Savings Account cards, cash, and checks.
